This weekend, Abbott Elementary creator and star Quinta Brunson hosted Saturday Night Live and her opening monologue was a parade of celebrity cameos. The audience was surprised when Brunson was joined on stage by pop star Sabrina Carpenter, who was there to support the comedian on one particular issue pertinent to them both.

Brunson began by telling viewers that her success shows “you can do anything you set your mind to even if people look down on you.” Brunson was joking about working as a phone sex operator before her big break and also “literally [being] four foot eleven.”

“Yeah, that’s right, I’m short,” Brunson continued. “They even tried to cast me as a kid on Abbott Elementary and I wrote that. But I love being short, and I want other short people to know the sky’s the limit. So shorties, tonight, this one’s for us.”

She began a song about “being short,” before being joined by Carpenter, who stands at 5’, one inch taller than Brunson.

“Sabrina, it’s the real you! What are you doing here?” Brunson asked the singer.

She replied, “I mean, you were talking about being short so I thought I’d stop by!”

The pair made some jokes about “short ribs” and novellas before they were joined by Saturday Night Live cast member Marcello Hernández, who said being with the two shorties made him look “super tall.” But then NBA star Dwyane Wade, who stands at 6’4” made an appearance. But he seem confused.

“I really love being short,” the athlete said. “I was sitting in the audience watching SNL and I heard your song about being short. I feel seen.”

When Brunson disagreed that Wade qualified as short, he admitted that he “really wanted to be in the song.”
