“Nobody 2” was directed by Indonesian filmmaker Timo Tjahjanto, who helmed “The Night Comes for Us” and “May the Devil Take You.” The screenplay is written by Derek Kolstad, who wrote the first film, along with Odenkirk, Aaron Rabin and Umair Aleem. Odenkirk produced the film with Marc Provissiero via Odenkirk Provissiero Entertainment. Other producers are Braden Aftergood through Eighty Two Films and Kelly McCormick and David Leitch through a first-look deal between 87North and Universal.
The first film, directed by Ilya Naishuller, was released in March 2021. It grossed $57 million at the global box office.
In his review of “Nobody,” Variety film critic Owen Gleiberman wrote that “The movie is all about how Hutch, beneath his safe and colorless life, has to get back in touch with who he really is. And maybe that’s a metaphor for the way a lot of middle-class nobodies feel. It would be overstating things, though, to push the meaning of a thriller like this one too far. It’s just a cardboard fable. But when the ultraviolence erupts, the movie pops.”
Odenkirk told Variety in 2021 that for “Nobody,” he used his own experience with home break-ins. “I recommend to any father who has suffered through a home break-in and felt like they could have done more to make an action film. It really was cathartic, and I did not expect that,” Odenkirk said.
“Nobody 2” hits theaters Aug. 15. Watch the trailer below.
