The toddler mom is sharing how special it was to discover the moment had been caught on camera without her even trying
An Iowa mom enjoyed one of life’s most special moments, and it was caught on camera.
Jennifer, a mom from Council Bluffs, Iowa, tells PEOPLE about the moment her Ring doorbell camera caught her baby girl’s first steps.
“My husband and I bought our home when we were 19! Our housewarming party is when we were gifted the Ring camera for our new home,” Jennifer tells PEOPLE.
One year after settling into their new home, the couple welcomed daughter Nellie. This spring, the mom and daughter went outside to watch Jennifer’s husband clean up the yard. During that time, a wonderful moment the two were anticipating finally happened.
“Nellie had been standing and shuffling while holding on to things, so we knew her first steps were coming soon,” the new mom shares.
The video shows mom and daughter hanging out on the front porch as dad works in the driveway. Then, Nellie pops up and grabs hold of the railing before letting go and turning to Jennifer, who cheers her little one on as she takes those tentative first steps toward her.

“I was ecstatic,” Jennifer says.
Jennifer cheers and scoops Nellie up into a big hug as her husband comes over to join in the celebrations.
It wasn’t until later that Jennifer realized that their Ring camera caught the moment. “We were just very excited that we were able to capture this memory on camera. It definitely filled us with joy,” she adds.
Now, she’s excited to share Nellie’s big moment with the world as she celebrates Mother’s Day.
“Every parent wants to be able to witness all the ‘firsts’ when it comes to their children,” she says, adding, “I am very proud of my daughter!”
