If there was a Netflix category for “soapy thrillers based on bestselling books” à la Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train, then The Hunting Wives would fit right in. Based on the bestselling novel by May Cobb, the new eight-episode series follows a woman who moves with her family from Boston to a small town in Texas, where she befriends a socialite and becomes entangled in obsession, seduction, and, of course, murder.

Brittany Snow as Sophie
Per the book’s original description, Sophie left behind her “envy-inspiring career and the stressful, competitive life of big-city” (originally Chicago but now Boston for the show) so her husband could take up a new job in rural Texas. She finds herself bored and restless, and falls in with a new group of mysterious housewives.

A fifth-generation oilman in Texas, Jed Banks is married to Margo. Also a notorious ladies’ man, he’s weighing a run for Texas governor, but he has no intention of letting politics interfere with their particular lifestyle.
