Kyle Richards’ and Mauricio Umansky’s daughter, Sophia Umansky, is opening up about the side effects she’s had since taking weight-loss medication.
On Wednesday, April 30, the 25-year-old revealed in a TikTok video that she’s been taking Mounjaro for weight loss for the past four months.
Mounjaro is an FDA-approved prescription medication for people with Type 2 diabetes. It’s a brand name for tirzepatide — also known as Zepbound — which is highly effective for weight loss by reducing appetite and improving how the body breaks down sugar and fat.
One side effect she’s been dealing with is hair loss.
“I am very lucky that I have so much hair, because at the rate that I’ve been losing hair, I’m gonna be bald in about a week,” she said.

Sophia said the “dramatic hair loss situation” began around three to four weeks ago. Although her hair was styled in a long blowout for the video, she added photos of her bathroom with the various accumulations of hair in the shower and sink.
“I’m just going to show you a quick little video of what my hair loss looks like, and this is every day,” she said. “And you’re not even seeing the half of it.”
She noted that her reality is “a lot worse,” because she only showed the before and after of her showers. The Buying Beverly Hills star then showed how quickly her hair falls out, by running her fingers through her hair and removing a “pile” of her tresses.

The TV personality clarified she doesn’t think that the hair loss is a “direct result of the medication.”
“I think it’s a direct result of rapid weight loss because of the medication, and not eating enough vitamins, protein, all that kind of stuff,” she said before telling viewers that she is “putting an effort into” taking vitamins and eating protein to combat the side effects.
Sophia’s comments align with the condition known as telogen effluvium, which occurs when hair loss is more likely due to the stress of rapid weight loss, according to Drugs.com.
She revealed that she’s been using OMI hair growth peptides, and taking collagen and Grüns vitamins.

Several TikTok users replied to her video, with a range of positive and negative comments. Other users also offered up tips, with suggestions to use Kérastase genesis line, topical minoxidil, Nutrafol, and a combination of rosemary oil, jojoba oil and castor oil.
One user suggested she see an endocrinologist, writing, “Please get your thyroid checked out… probably a obvious answer but those issues can get undiagnosed for a long time.”
