Jennifer Aniston Calls Making ‘The Break-Up’ a ‘Cathartic’ Experience After Brad Pitt Divorce originally appeared on Parade.
Jennifer Aniston admitted that filming the 2006 romantic comedy The Break-Up was a “cathartic” experience after her divorce from ex-husband Brad Pitt.
While speaking to Vanity Fair in an interview published on Monday, August 11, Aniston, 56, explained that filming the movie allowed her to have an emotional release following her split from Pitt, 61, in 2005.
In one YouTube video shared by the outlet, Aniston watched a clip from the film that followed her navigating a split with her love interest, played by Vince Vaughn. “I’m not spending one more second of this life with some inconsiderate prick,” her character, Brooke, said in the clip.
“I might have just gone through a separation,” Aniston said after watching the portion of the movie, referring to her divorce from Pitt. She then made light of the divorce by adding, “That little separation. I’m sure nobody remembers that.”
“So it was kind of cathartic to go right from that,” Aniston said of filming the movie shortly after her divorce. “When they came to me with the offer, they were a little nervous about making the offer, ’cause they thought, ‘Oh, is that insensitive? Is it inappropriate?’ But I actually thought, ‘What a great opportunity.’ ”
Aniston clarified that she viewed it as an “opportunity” for both herself and the movie.
“I knew it would actually kind of benefit me emotionally, just as a human being,” she said of The Break-Up. “And also serve the script and the character pretty well.”

In addition to reflecting on making the movie, Aniston also made a rare comment about Pitt moving on with Angelina Jolie soon after they called it quits.
“It was such juicy reading for people,” Aniston said of the media’s fascination regarding the “love triangle” between the three actors. “If they didn’t have their soap operas, they had their tabloids.”
She continued, “It’s a shame that it had to happen, but it happened. And boy did I take it personally.”
