The truth has come to light in the latest Days of Our Lives mystery.
In the Aug. 19 episode of the long-running soap opera, the search for the person who shot EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel) came to an end. After working to regain his memory of the incident over the past four months, EJ had a flashback that revealed his 10-year-old niece Rachel (Alice Halsey) was the culprit.
In the dramatic scene, a squabble between Marlena (Deidre Hall) and Rachel brought back EJ’s recollection of his near-death experience. It was revealed that Rachel pulled the trigger when EJ denied knowing about her grandmother’s disappearance after she made several demands for him to tell her.

The realization was nothing that anyone in Salem expected.
The initial suspect was EJ’s son, Johnny (Carson Boatman), but EJ later realized during a hypnosis session that the assailant was a woman.
When a recording of Johnny’s wife, Chanel (Raven Bowens), threatening EJ emerged, she became a prime suspect. However, that video was revealed to be a deepfake.
Then, Marlena insinuated to EJ that the shooter was Belle (Martha Madison), his ex-girlfriend and the prosecutor in the court case, which only raised suspicion that Marlena was trying to deflect from the truth.
After the episode aired, fans reacted to the long-awaited reveal.
A viewer-led Reddit thread titled, “OMG WE WERE RIGHT,” prompted discussion about the bombshell and indicated that viewers suspected Rachel was guilty all along.
“The reveal scene was SO GOOD. They crushed it,” one user wrote.
Another added, “I gotta hand it to them, the reveal was well done. Even though most saw it coming and it has been dragged out, they nailed the landing. Now really curious to see the fallout.”
“I think nobody’s going to believe EJ at this point and everyone will be pissed off at him for even suggesting it was her 😄,” someone else speculated.
In a preview of this week’s episodes, the jury reaches a verdict, causing Rachel’s mother, Kristin (Stacy Haiduk), to explode.
The teaser shows an intense clip in which Kristin has to be held back after storming into the courtroom screaming.
“Corporate battles. Shifting loyalties. And a verdict that could change everything. 💼⚖️,” the caption reads. “Next week, the future hangs by a thread in Salem.”
