Cody Johnson has multiple things to celebrate: the American country music singer took home the award for Best New Song for his single Dirt Cheap, at the 60th Academy of Country Music Awards, and confirmed that he and his wife Brandi Johnson are expecting their third child.
The singer-songwriter confirmed to PEOPLE, “We’re having a little boy! We decided to make this our announcement to the world and our gender reveal as well.”
When asked if he was excited about the gender of his upcoming child, the father of two girls said, “I didn’t care if this one was a boy or a girl, but I was pretty happy when I saw the gender reveal.”
Johnson and his wife Brandi wed in 2008. The couple have two daughters Clara Mae, 10, and Cori, 8.
Dirt Cheap was released as a single last March from his album Leather. The song was written by song writer Josh Phillips and produced by Trent Willmon for Warner Nashville.
The song peaked on the Billboard US Country Airplay chart at number 5, and previously won Storyteller Song of the Year at the People’s Choice Country Awards. The song was also nominated for Single of the Year and Music Video of the year at the Country Music Association Awards
Johnson is nominated for a total of seven awards at the Academy of Country Music Awards. Visual Media of the Year, Single of the Year, Song of the Year, Music Event of the Year, Visual Media of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, and Entertainer of the Year.
Before his win tonight, Johnson has previously been nominated ten times since his first nomination in 2020 for an Academy of Country Music Award.
Johnson has released nine studio albums, beginning his career in 2006 with Black and White Label.
