Call it the sisterhood of the traveling vintage dress.
Last night, Christina Aguilera attended the West End opening for Burlesque: The Musical at the Savoy Theatre in London, where she wore an archival green Versace look that she’d previously modeled for a campaign 22 years prior.
The dress—which has proven popular amongst celebrities in recent years—features an olive green fabric like a ruffled crepe, and it flowed across Aguilera’s body like gauze. The sleeves draped across her upper arms, while the skirt featured tiers of ruffles that decorated the asymmetrical hem and sides.
Two panels of lighter green fabric framed the bodice, emulating the look of a corset, with chartreuse ribbons lacing across the front. Finally, Aguilera gave the ensemble a bit of a pirate-y edge, by adding some ruched, thigh-high stiletto boots in black, which coordinated with her dark plum lips. For a final touch, she also rocked a teased, bleached ’do.
The dress was pulled from the Versace Fall 2003 collection, and Aguilera wore it that same year, when she posed for a campaign highlighting pieces from the collection. “There are so many things I love about Donatella and I would wear everything she’s got,” Aguilera said at the time for an interview with Billboard.
While the “Beautiful” singer has worn the gown before, it turns out she’s not the only one. In fact, a number of stars have donned the same vintage piece, from Beyoncé to Devon Lee Carlson and Iris Law. The dress even made an appearance in SZA’s “Snooze” music video, as well as at the MTV Video Music Awards, when Iris Apatow wore it in 2021. Talk about an It girl design.
