Ayo Edebiri paid tribute to her father and her heritage for her 2025 Met Gala look
The Bear actress’s take on the “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” theme included a leather tailcoat that was inspired by her father, who she called “one of the dandiest men I know”
Edebiri’s appearance at fashion’s biggest night comes just one year after she made her Met Gala debut in 2024
Ayo Edebiri has arrived at the 2025 Met Gala, one year after making her debut at fashion’s biggest night.
The Bear actress, 29, hit the Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 5 carpet in a leather tailcoat and white floor-length shirtdress by Maximilian Davis, the creative director of Ferragamo.
While Edebiri’s look didn’t take the “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” theme of the evening literally, she looked for a more subtle way she could be on theme, and stumbled upon her dad as inspiration for the look.
“I’m a Black American that’s half Bajan, half Nigerian, and grew up in church — I honestly think all of the men in my life are fashionable,” Edebiri told Vogue of her look for the evening.
“He’s one of the dandiest men I know, whether he’s power-clashing to go to the office, or in traditional Edo clothes at the Emmys with me,” she added. “He got married to my mom in leather trousers and tuxedo tails, which is pretty iconic.”

The star added a pop of color to her look with bold red glass beads that cascaded down the length of her dress. For glam, The Bear actress opted for a sultry brown smoky eye, nude glossy lips and thinned out eyebrows.

In 2025, the Bottoms star went floral for the Met Gala theme, “Garden of Time.” For the occasion, Edebiri donned a custom Loewe creation by Jonathan Anderson — after narrowing down a few looks, the actress revealed that her backless floral ombré gown “was the one that spoke to me the most.”
Anderson — according to her stylist, Danielle Goldberg — agreed. “That really locked that in for me, in my heart,” the actress told Vogue of how her look came to be. “The level of craftsmanship that it took to make this dress is so beyond. Looking into those details, taking that into consideration, it just amplifies that feeling for me.”

As for the over-blushed, spring-like flush on her cheeks during the event, the star told PEOPLE that she wanted something very different from her usual makeup look.
“For everyday makeup, I use mascara, brow gel, a lip gloss/oil and maybe some blush if I’m feeling wild,” she said. “For this floral moment, my makeup artist added pink draping of blush (which I love), a bee-stung lip and little sheen for my eyes.”

“Ayo really wanted to do pink draping with the blush and I absolutely loved that idea. To me, blush is the go-to for a complete spring makeup look,” her makeup artist Dana Delaney, explained.
Before makeup, Edebiri called her SK-II skincare “the most relaxing part of getting ready for Met Gala.”
During the event itself, Edebiri later told Vogue live red carpet host LaLa Anthony that her look was “a Loewe fantasy … Feeling really easy but at the same time very intentional.”
Following the glamorous 2024 event, The Bear actress took to her Instagram to share her gratitude for being able to attend for the first time.
“FIRST MET THANK YOU @loewe and @voguemagazine,” she captioned a carousel post of behind-the-scenes moments from her debut at fashion’s biggest night out.
