Parenting influencer Lindsay Dewey announced that she is writing a children’s book to honor her late son Reed. The 22-month-old died tragically after an unsecured mirror fell on top of him in February.
On Monday, Aug. 18, Dewey posted a carousel of photos on Instagram to share that she has “been quietly working on something VERY special,” as she wrote in her caption. She explained that she wrote the book — which is titled Reed’s Roar — to honor her son’s life and “to bring beauty and inspiration from ashes.”
“This sweet book is about bravery, sacrifice, and kindness,” Dewey wrote in her announcement, adding that she decided to write the book shortly after his death. “It’s my job to make sure his life remains honored and remembered.”

Her emotional caption accompanied a series of headshots followed by a photo of a stuffed animal lying beside a book bearing Reed’s photo. Dewey continued to explain how her book’s story “was born on an airplane” in her phone’s Notes app.
“I prayed and pondered and shortly came up with the inspiration to write it. I’ve been praying over this book nonstop and I hope it touches the hearts of all who read it,” the content creator told her 96,300 followers, with whom she promised to share “more details soon.”
She continued, “It’s a great book for any child in your life, with a meaningful message based on my baby boy’s story. Don’t worry I’ve kept it lighthearted, creative, and children-age appropriate. My prayer is that this book will become one of you and your child’s favorite book to read!”
Her book announcement comes about six months after Reed’s death, which Dewey later recounted on her Instagram Stories. According to her summary of the fatal incident, the toddler was playing with a suction cup bowl by sticking it onto a mirror and pulling it back and forth. Eventually, the motion brought the fragile surface down, and the mirror fell on top of Reed at their home in Idaho.
As she explained in her post from February, Dewey didn’t realize her son was using the bowl as a toy, since she had last seen him playing with magnetic tiles. The mom of three was just 10 feet away from her son at the time, cooking dinner in another room. She was only alerted to his proximity to the mirror when she heard it fall down.
Despite the mirror’s “heavy duty” weight, Dewey managed to lift it off Reed within five seconds. Reed was then rushed to the hospital, where he fell into a coma due to his injuries. He had limited pupil response, breathing autonomy and brain functionality due to swelling, per his mother’s Instagram Stories.

Days later, Reed’s doctors determined that he was brain dead, and Dewey noted that her child’s organs were donated to five recipients.
“I’ve been telling myself ‘If he doesn’t get his miracle, he will become one’ and that’s the only thing that’s getting me through,” Dewey captioned her emotional update on Feb. 21. “Even though his wasn’t saved, he is saving lives.”
