‘70s Rock Band Dominates Billboard Charts With Revival of 2 Songs originally appeared on Parade.
They say history repeats itself, and the saying seems to be true as two of AC/DC’s hit songs have reportedly climbed their way back to multiple Billboard charts.
The rock band’s smash 1990 song “Thunderstruck” is high on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart and landed No. 3 on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs chart, according to Forbes.
Meanwhile, AC/DC’s 1980 single “You Shook Me All Night Long” sits next to the last slot at No. 24 on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs list.
Netflix fans who watched America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders may have heard the Grammy-winning band’s tune. Season 2 premiered on the streaming service on June 28, which featured the song whenever the cheerleaders performed their iconic routine.
Some of the cheerleaders, including fan favorites Reese Weaver, Jada Mclean and Charly Barby, made a surprise appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on June 25. The teammates appeared on stage by performing their “Thunderstruck” dance. The in-studio audience went wild as they watched the popular choreography, and viewers at home enjoyed the performance just as much.
“Wow those cheerleader’s just did a lovely performance. I was so impressed by the song that they danced to and I’m a fan of AC/DC,” a fan wrote in the comments section of the show’s YouTube clip of the episode.
A second person wrote, “I’ve watched DCC Making the Team and the Netflix show and watching them do ‘Thunderstruck’ still gives me chills.”
Over 30 years after “Thunderstruck” was released, younger generations have learned to love the catchy tune. After America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders premiered in June 2024, fans were eager to learn the routine and quickly created a TikTok trend.
In 2014, music supervisor Thomas Golubic revealed that “Thunderstruck” was the most expensive song he’s used on his projects, specifically for Varsity Blues.
“I remember being absolutely horrified when I heard that number,” Thomas said of the massive $500,000 grand total. “And we spent a lot of time coming up with what we thought were great alternates, but there was going to be no budget on that, and they had money, so they paid for it.”
