A woman took to Reddit to voice her frustrations after her mother-in-law questioned the paternity of her child
The Reddit user claimed her husband’s mother has “never liked” her, but tensions grew after she gave birth
Now, the new mom does not want her mother-in-law to hold their child
A woman who recently gave birth to her first child says her partner’s mother has been causing “nonstop drama” — so much so that she has now banned her mother-in-law from visiting the baby.
In a post shared to Reddit, the anonymous 28-year-old writes that her mother-in-law has “never liked” her.
“From the start, she made snide comments about how I ‘trapped’ her son, even though we’ve been happily married for four years,” she writes. “When I got pregnant, she constantly joked about how the baby might not be his. I brushed it off as her usual passive-aggressive behavior — until I found out she took it way further.”
Two days after she gave birth, her husband got a text from his mom saying, “You should get a DNA test. You never know these days.”

“I was devastated when I saw it,” the new mom writes. “My husband was furious and told her off, saying he had zero doubts about me and that her comment was disgusting. She tried to backtrack, saying she was ‘just looking out for him.’ “
Now, the mother-in-law “wants to come over and meet the baby.”
“But I told my husband that she will not be holding our daughter,” the woman writes. “If she wants to question whether my child is even her grandchild, then she doesn’t get the privilege of bonding with her. My husband understands why I’m upset, but he thinks we should let her come ‘just once’ so she doesn’t play the victim with the rest of the family.”
The mother-in-law began telling other family members that she’s being “punished” over what she calls a “harmless question.” However, the Reddit user says her mother-in-law took it a step further when she tried to secretly orchestrate a DNA test behind her back.
“Apparently, she was hoping to get a strand of my baby’s hair or some spit to ‘confirm the truth.’ When my SIL told me, I was absolutely done,” she writes.

Other Reddit users say they don’t blame her.
“She played a stupid game and won a well-deserved consequence. If she didn’t want to be ‘kept away’ from her grandchild, maybe she shouldn’t have treated you like a liar and tried to go behind your back,” wrote one commenter.
Added another: “She can’t have it both ways, either she believes the baby isn’t her grandchild, or she wants to be involved. But accusing you of cheating while still demanding grandmother privileges is just straight-up manipulative.”
