The View audience may have noticed one key host missing from the action this week.

Early on in the episode, Joy Behar addressed the Oscar-winner’s absence, joking, “We are all jealous of Whoopi today because she’s in Italy — I hope it’s 100 degrees.”
As for why Goldberg is currently in Italy, Behar revealed, “She’s in Italy accepting an award for her book Bits and Pieces, so she will be out this week.”
Goldberg even shared a look at her time abroad on Instagram the day before, writing alongside a photo of herself onstage receiving the honor, “Thank you (Grazie!) @taobukfestival for giving me a beautiful experience in an extraordinary environment, an honorable award and your kindness. Books are so important to all the world.”

The memoir, Bits and Pieces: My Mother, My Brother, and Me, was released last spring and focuses on the actress’ life growing up in New York with her family and their influence on her life.
Entertainment Weekly reported that Goldberg will be back on TV screens on July 7 for the Hot Topics table, following the show’s annual summer hiatus for the July 4th holiday, which will see Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro and Alyssa Farah Griffin all OOO.
Goldberg has a packed schedule this summer, as she’ll be taking time away from The View again in September as she treks back to Europe for her two live shows in London.
