  • Although he has “an aversion to heights,” Goggins said that he was excited to take the photos, saying that he’s approaching his career with “such a childlike abandonment”

Walton Goggins wasn’t afraid to break some rules for his steamy photo shoot for Cultured magazine.

Fresh off his acclaimed appearance in season 3 of The White Lotus, the 53-year-old actor stripped down to a skimpy yellow Speedo and posed on the Santa Monica Pier in Santa Monica, Calif.

During a Thursday, May 1 appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Goggins said that there were some strict rules that they followed to pull off the shoot. The rules particularly applied to posing on the iconic Ferris wheel.

“It wasn’t legal. It wasn’t legal at all,” he admitted. “As a matter of fact, once we got on the Ferris wheel, I had these sweatpants that I put on. As soon as the Ferris wheel started to move, I would take them off really quickly and just kind of model.”

Goggins struck the pose while revisiting his stint as a model.

“[The photographer] would take a bunch of photos, and as the wheel was kind of returning to the bottom, I had to put [the pants] on really quickly,” he added.

The idea of posing in the Speedo was an exciting one for the actor, who is now appearing in the fourth season ofThe Righteous Gemstones.

“I’ve been around such a long time, and I’m so grateful for everything in my life. I’m really approaching this with such a childlike abandonment in the sense that the photographer said, ‘You want to put on these yellow Speedos?’ and I said, ‘Yeah, sure. Why not?’ ” he said, adding that he posed on the Ferris wheel despite having “an aversion to heights.”

On Instagram, Goggins described the photo shoot as a “fabulously creative and wild f—— day.” However, there was a moment when he thought that he might get arrested during it.

“I don’t think I’ll ever be allowed back on the Santa Monica Pier. I’m an enthusiastic guy… at one point I got so excited by @strange.victory [Sinna Nasseri’s] photography that I stood straight up thru the sunroof. You don’t do that in Santa Monica. We were promptly pulled over by the police,” he said. “Luckily he was a fan of The Shield so it worked out.”

Goggins shared more about the moment on The Late Show, saying that he actually jumped out of the car.

He recalled telling the photographer to “Take pictures while I jump out of this moving car and [across] the lane of traffic. I did. I got really excited.”

They got photos from the moment, but the car couldn’t stop and Goggins was left behind. At that moment, a police car drove by with the sirens on.

“He said, ‘Excuse me, sir. Excuse me.’ And I said, ‘Oh my God, I’m so sorry, officer. I’m so sorry.’ And he said, ‘What are you doing?’ And I said, ‘I’m doing a photo shoot.’ ‘Well, where’s your photographer?’ No one was there. Everyone was left in the car.”

Speaking to Cultured, Goggins reflected on his big year, saying, “It feels like things have been expanding over the course of my career. But now, I’m at a point where people can tune in to what I’m doing on more than one channel — that’s pretty cool.”

Goggins has even more in the works, including plans to make his debut hosting Saturday Night Live. The actor is taking over the show on May 10 alongside musical guest Arcade Fire.

The news comes after the sketch show ran a pre-recorded skit about The White Lotus, which he heavily praised. However, it was poorly received by his costar, Aimee Lou Wood.
