It’s official — there will be more mess between Bree and Oliver in season 3 of Tell Me Lies.
Tom Ellis, who joined the hit series as the flirtatious (and married) professor whom Bree (Catherine Missal) pursued, is returning for the forthcoming season of the Hulu show, he confirms to PEOPLE.
“Yes, I’m going back. I’m actually going there on Saturday to start shooting,” Ellis, 46, reveals on Wednesday, May 6, at CBS Fest in Los Angeles.

The Lucifer star, who is married to Tell Me Lies showrunner Meghan Oppenheimer, teases that fans “will not be disappointed” by the new installment after revealing he’s read “the first four episodes” already.
“It is as dark, toxic, and funny as ever,” Ellis says. “And just when you thought our characters couldn’t do anything more ridiculous to themselves, they ended up doing it.”

Gabriella Pession as Marianne, Tom Ellis as Oliver in ‘Tell Me Lies’ season 2
Ellis’ character, who revealed in the season 2 finale that his wife Marianne (Gabriella Pession) had been aware the whole time of his affair with Bree — and that this wasn’t his first time pursuing such extramarital relations, will have “a lot of redeeming moments” in season 3, he says.
“I’ve got to be honest, the focus isn’t so much on my character this season, but it still plays very much into the Bree storyline.”

Following the dramatic conclusion to season 2, Ellis told PEOPLE he found his character “despicable” as he admitted he “found it really difficult to find redeeming features, because I don’t really think he has any.”
“I think, thankfully, I’ve left Oliver behind now. But no… I felt really dark at the end of it,” he said of portraying the professor. “I felt dark because I’d been part of telling that story. And yeah, I did need to kind of just remind myself of who I am and all those things.”
“I don’t think it’s something that I’ll want to kind of remunerate too much about in the future. It’s just, ‘Okay, I’ve done that, and I’m glad I’ve done it for the purposes that we’ve done it,’ but it’s not someone that I will be celebrating when I look back in my career, I don’t think.”

Catherine Missal as Bree, Tom Ellis as Oliver in ‘Tell Me Lies’ season 2
Tell Me Lies was renewed for a third season in December, and while little is known about what’s to come in the new installment, Oppenheimer told Variety that fans can expect “more of the future” timeline in season 3.
“I think it would be a little bit shifted in the sense that there will probably be more 2015 than 2008,” she said.
However, she also said she was “ready for Bree to be done with [Oliver]” and that she’d “wrapped up [her husband’s] storyline in a way that really worked,” so he was unlikely to return for season 3, though he’s now revealed that’s not the case.
