Andor is back for its second and final season on Disney+. Set in the Star Wars universe before the events in Rogue One, the series follows the journey of Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), a rebel spy navigating a growing resistance against an authoritarian regime. Speaking to Time Out, the series’s creator Tony Gilroy described Andor as a story “about revolution, and the making of a revolutionary.”
The show depicts the inner workings of a rebellion—how it’s built, how it’s funded, and how the people behind it must make impossible choices. “Every revolution I ever read about, the primary concern is where the resources come from,” Gilroy told Time Out. “But nobody ever deals with that.”
“The writing of this show, it keeps changing, keeps transforming, keeps bringing new turns. It’s full of layers,” Luna explained to ELLE.com in a June 2023 interview.
Genevieve O’Reilly, who plays secret rebel leader Mon Mothma, emphasized how grounded the series feels despite its galaxy-sized setting. “I remember saying, ‘Gosh, I feel like I’m in Downton Abbey in Star Wars.’ It was really about family and nuance and threat,” she told The Guardian. “And it feels deeply human.”
While Andor ties into larger Star Wars lore, viewers don’t need to be superfans to follow along. “I want people to know that you don’t have to know anything to come into the show and start watching it from the beginning,” Gilroy added to Time Out. “It’s designed that way.” Despite its sci-fi trappings, the focus here is on everyday people—spies, politicians, and civilians—who are pushed to take extraordinary risks under extraordinary circumstances.
Season 2 builds on the acclaimed first season with a new set of stories told over four time jumps. It charts the rise of a full-fledged rebellion, tracing how scattered resistance movements begin to form a unified front. The series also stars Stellan Skarsgård, Denise Gough, Adria Arjona, and Kyle Soller.
How many episodes are in Andor season 2?
Season 2 consists of 12 episodes, grouped into four three-episode arcs. Each arc represents a crucial window of time in the years leading up to Rogue One.
“It should be the most intense three days each time,” Gilroy told IndieWire, explaining how the time jumps keep the pace taut while allowing for major shifts in the characters’ emotional journeys.
