Actress Alicia Silverstonereflected on her decades-long career in the August 2025 ’90s issue of Entertainment Weekly.
In the August 14 article, Entertainment Weekly reported that Silverstone said she was sought out to play a character during the fifth season of Beverly Hills, 90210 during a 1995 interview with the publication, per People magazine. While speaking to Entertainment Weekly in 1995, Silverstone said she didn’t take on the offer because she didn’t want to trade in her successful film career to star in a Fox series.
“There’s no reason to get locked into a television show when you might be able to do a movie with somebody like Al Pacino,” said Silverstone to the publication in 1995.
During the August 2025 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Silverstone referenced that she became famous after starring in the 1993 psychological thriller, Crush, starring opposite Cary Elwes. Silverstone was just 16 years old when the film premiered. According to Silverstone, she wasn’t prepared for the amount of media attention she received.
“Zero. Zero prepared. It was really hard, because you’re just a little girl. You’re a little person and trying to grow up, and you’re growing up in front of people. For any human, it’s an awkward time … For any human, most of life is pretty awkward,” said the 48-year-old.
In the August 2025 interview, Silverstone discussed her relationship with acting. She explained that she has taken several breaks from her acting career after filming the 1995 hit, Clueless.
“Before Clueless, I was much more intuitive and playful and had more confidence about what I was doing. And I think after Clueless, for a minute I got a little stressed and made it more intellectual or something,” said Silverstone during the interview. “I had about three or four years of this strange feeling. Acting is important to me, but I have taken breaks from it at times, and then come back to it because I loved it so much. I’ve figured out that you can do all the things.”
Silverstone is producing an upcoming Clueless sequel series. The actress, who played Cher Horowitz in the film, teased some information about the new show during an August 2025 interview on The TODAY Show.
“I’m really excited about it. I think we are going to try really hard,” said the mother of one. “Our goal is to honor what everyone loves about Clueless Cher, but also bring something really fresh and new to it.”
