Comedian and actor Rondell Sheridan has been hospitalized because of severe pancreatitis, the “That’s So Raven” star announced Wednesday on Instagram, and is asking fans for help with his medical bills and expenses.
Sheridan said he fell ill while on the road on April 10 and paid a visit to the hospital, where doctors thought it was a “gastric” problem.
When he was home on April 12, he immediately went to the hospital and was diagnosed with pancreatitis after many tests.
Sheridan said he was in the hospital for nine days but continued to post from a hospital bed Wednesday.
“I got released and I thought I was on the road to recovery,” he said. “My pancreas is inflamed and there’s not much you can do about it but just wait for the inflammation to go down.”
A GoFundMe campaign for Sheridan had raised over $59,000 as of Thursday.
“I didn’t realize that I was going to be, and will be, out of work for quite some time,” he said.
Sheridan, 66, is best known for playing Raven Symoné’s father, Victor Baxter, on the Disney Channel hit show “That’s So Raven,” and in the spinoffs “Cory in the House” and “Raven’s Home.”
Sheridan appeared on “Tea Time with Raven and Miranda,” Symoné’s podcast with her wife, Miranda Maday, on April 3, only a week before his first hospitalization.
“He’s been my TV dad since I was 15 years old,” Symoné said in a clip of the episode.
Jake Thomas, who also appeared in “Cory in the House” alongside Sheridan, commented on the post, “Get well soon Rondell!”
Sheridan has been out of work since April 12 and will mostly remain bedridden during his recovery, according to the GoFundMe page.
“If we can all come together to help him financially for his medical and monthly bills while his body heals, I know this will be one giant stress we can collectively take off his shoulders, so that he can focus on resting, recovering, and healing,” the GoFundMe description reads. “Every little bit helps and he appreciates you immensely.”
