Taylor Swift is no stranger to incredible fan projects, but one during the European leg of her Eras Tour left her completely speechless. What made it so remarkable? Swifties came together in an unplanned, spontaneous display of creativity that turned a stadium into a glowing sea of lights.
Swift gushed about the project on the latest episode of Travis and Jason Kelce’s ‘New Heights’ podcast.
“It was insane to look out and see, spontaneously, thousands of these orbs just go up,” Taylor recalled. “I don’t even know who organized this. Was there a group text? It felt like we were all part of something together that couldn’t be planned. It was so special.”

About the Stunning Tribute
The magic began in July 2024 at the Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. Fans attending the Eras Tour performance of “Willow” brought their own illuminated orbs. These weren’t your typical concert props. Each orb consisted of a balloon and a phone flashlight behind it, creating a mesmerizing glow throughout the stadium. From the floor to the uppermost rows, the effect was breathtaking.
“One of my favorite things was when the fans would come up with their own traditions,” Taylor shared. “The fans decided that they were gonna bring their own light-up orbs, and by that I mean balloons.”
Videos posted to social media show a sea of yellow and orange balloons lighting up every corner of the arena. As Taylor sang, fans tossed their orbs into the air or batted them around, creating a living, moving light show that became as much a part of the performance as the music itself.

By the end of the Eras Tour, Swift says the fans had come up with so many fun projects like this. Fans developed chants, timed gestures and even small traditions tied to specific song lyrics, transforming the stadium experience into something reminiscent of a cult favorite movie sing-along. “By the end of the tour, it was like Rocky Horror Picture Show,” Taylor joked.
Taylor Nation, Swift’s marketing team, shared clips from the event on social media with a note praising the fans. The response from concertgoers was overwhelming. Each night, the number of orbs seemed to grow, and Taylor herself noticed. During an acoustic set, she pointed out the gesture, laughing and telling the crowd, “You guys are so thoughtful. I was cracking up the whole time.”
What makes this fan project extraordinary is that it wasn’t officially organized. There were no rehearsals, no official instructions, no sponsorships. Just thousands of Swifties wanting to create something beautiful together for a shared love of Taylor and her music.
It’s clear that the Willow Orbs project is a fan moment Taylor will never forget. From the glowing balloons to the laughter and chants echoing through the arena, it perfectly captured the community and creativity that make Swifties a fandom unlike any other. And as Taylor said, looking out at all the lights, “It was so special.”
