Sam Elliott is joining Billy Bob Thornton in Taylor Sheridan’s Landman, a Paramount+ show focused on the oil business in West Texas, for season 2.
Elliott, 80, will step into the world of Sheridan’s show as a regular soon, as production has already begun in West Texas, per Variety. Details of the actor’s role are currently being kept quiet.
Landman is based on the 2019 Boomtown podcast, hosted by Chris Wallace, who is credited as a co-creator on the show.
The 11-part Texas Monthly podcast focused on “the rugged Permian Basin of West Texas, where roughnecks and billionaire wildcatters are fueling a boom so big it’s reshaping our climate, our economy, and our geopolitics,” per the outlet.

The actor will join the ranks of Demi Moore, Andy Garcia, Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, Michelle Randolph, Paulina Chávez, Kayla Wallace, Mark Collie, James Jordan, and more.
Elliott previously worked with Thornton and the late Val Kilmer in Tombstone in 1993. The actor has additionally worked with Sheridan previously on 1883, the Paramount+ sequel to the smash hit Western Yellowstone.

The actor took home a Screen Actors Guild Award (SAG) for his 1883 performance in 2023.
“What can I say in 45 seconds, after just receiving the most meaningful acknowledgement of my 55-year career from a group of my peers?” Elliott said at the time. “Many of whom I don’t even know, or know only from afar as a fan who respects their work. Not time to say enough.”

“But I can say thank you, and I can tell you that I’m honored and grateful to be in your company, whether in this audience or at home,” Elliott continued. “After seeing the work of my fellow nominees, I’m not sure I should be standing up here, but I’m sure I’ll get over that.”
He also received an Oscar nomination for his role as Bobby Maine in the 2018 adaptation of A Star Is Born, in which he starred opposite Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. Elliott is also known for his roles in Lifeguard, The Big Lebowski, The Contender, and more.

Elliott himself has deep ties to the state of Texas. He confirmed in a 2019 interview with Variety, “I think it’s in my blood in some ways. My family is all from the Southwest. My great-great-grandfather was at the Battle of San Jacinto with Sam Houston. So it runs deep.”
A release date for Landman season 2 has yet to be announced.
