Rob Lowe, 61, Happy to ‘Flaunt It’: ‘It Ain’t Bragging’ originally appeared on Parade.
Actor Rob Lowe isn’t shy about showing off that he’s still “got it” after all these years. The ’80s heartthrob from iconic films such as St. Elmo’s Fire and The Outsiders, who now stars in 9-1-1: Lone Star, still causes a stir when he posts a shirtless selfie on his Instagram page.
In a chat with People, Lowe touched on the topic of the “thirst traps” he shares. “If you got it, flaunt it,” he says.
Lowe shared, “Every once in a while, you’ve got to throw it down. You’ve got to be like, ‘Yeah, come on.'” He added, “If you got it, flaunt it, use it or lose it, and it ain’t bragging if you’ve done it. Those are my three go-tos.”
The actor’s most recent “thirst trap” Instagram post featured him posing shirtless alongside his son, John Owen, 29. Lowe told People the snapshot was his son’s idea, and he went on to give some additional background on how the shot came to be.
“It got really competitive,” Lowe explained, of the pair’s joint workout session that day. “Then we were doing extra sets, you know what I mean? It’s a little bit motivating, and you’ve got to get your motivation wherever you can find it,” he added.

Staying fit is important to Lowe. However, he told USA Today on June 13, he embraces the occasional “cheat day” as well. “When I really cheat, I go ham,” he quipped.
“It’s hot chicken. When I’m in New York, it’s my favorite pizza place. Or, if I’m in Philly, I’m getting a Philly cheese steak with a whiz on it. Maybe I’ll get The Apple Pan in LA and get a slice of pie after a burger. I mean, I know how to throw down.”
When he’s not embracing a cheat day, Lowe noted that he avoids sugar and aims to eat like a “caveman.” He also credits quality sleep and his sobriety for keeping him so fit. As USA Today noted, Lowe became sober in 1990.
