Resurfaced Olivia Rodrigo Concert Clip Debunks Popular Fan Theory About Her Next Album originally appeared on Parade.
Olivia Rodrigo just officially rounded out the GUTS era with one last stop at Lollapalooza. At the end of her last song, she even gave away the iconic GUTS rings featured in the album cover to lucky fans in the crowd.
With the end of the GUTS era came one question for fans: what’s next? The pop star has been teasing her next album for a while, but everyone has been trying to figure out the name of her next album. For a while, people thought they had something:
In this clip, she’s wearing a red shirt that has the number 3 on it. Fans have long speculated that OR3 would be “red,” just like GUTS and Sour were dark and light purple, respectively. While it makes sense that the shirt could very well be a teaser, there’s one thing that isn’t.
She’s singing her song “brutal” here, specifically the lyrics, “I don’t even know where to start.”
It sounds kind of like she sings, “I don’t even know where to… star.” The slight pause and deliberate dropping of the “T” on “start” had fans swearing she was actually revealing that the name of her next album would be “Star.”
While I hate to be the bearer of bad news, a TikTok from a show earlier in the tour proves that she’s always said it like that:
Olivia is notorious for the way she pronounces words when she sings: sometimes she slurs them together. Other times, she drops letters. She also often moves the microphone farther away from her mouth as she sings: it’s part of her style.
A combination of all three of these things led to this fan theory, but it’s time to put it to rest. Whatever the album will be named, it definitely won’t be that.
