‘Heartstopper’ Fans Emotional as Star Marks End of an Era: ‘I’m Going to Cry’ originally appeared on Parade.
Joe Locke, one of the stars of the hit Netflix show Heartstopper, marked the end of an era as he wrapped up filming the feature film that will conclude the show’s story.
Locke, who plays the main character Charlie Spring, took to Instagram to share a photo taken by Iso Attrill, a director’s assistant on the TV series and film. In the photo, Locke grinned at the camera as he walked beside his co-star and on-screen love interest, Kit Connor, who plays Nick Nelson.

The 21-year-old actor captioned the update, “bye charlie x thankyou <3.” On his Instagram Stories, he confirmed that they finished filming the movie, writing alongside the snap, “Wrapped forever ♥️.”

Fans immediately flooded the comments with emotional messages as they understood what Locke’s post meant.
“It hurts so much that you’ve played Charlie Spring for the last time 💔😭,” wrote one fan, as similar comments read, “Oh my goodness!!! Absolutely sobbing! No one could have played Charlie like you Joe!” and “I’m not emotionally ready to say goodbye 😢.”

Fans continued thanking Locke for his work on the show, with some fans saying that the show completely changed their life. Netflix has not shared an official release date for the Heartstopper movie, but it will likely drop on the streaming platform in 2026.
