From stage and screen to sporting arenas and concert halls, stars from all walks of life are coming together on the Met Gala carpet tonight to celebrate fashion’s big night out. The event, which serves as both the opening of and a benefit for the annual Costume Institute exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, is a banner night for the fashion world’s calendar, with celebs flocking to the event to show off their most daring styles.
Among them tonight is Regina King, who opted for a bold suit set in an inky navy hue. The style nodded toward the event’s dress code “Tailored for You”—itself keyed to the theme of the exhibit, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style which takes a look at the history of Black fashion influence through the lens of menswear and the Black dandy—with tailored details, including the hint of a structured bodice. Modern touches included with a gravity-defying collar and embellished green vine work, highlighting an illustrated panel.
King, who is not only a guest at the gala but also a member of the evening’s host committee, is no stranger to the Met’s steps. In 2021 she attended the event in a gown that could well have played into this year’s masculine theme—a navy and gold pinstriped gown with suiting details and a sequin-lined overcoat/cape hybrid.
She also attended the 2019 gala for the Camp: Notes on Fashion opening, that year donning a glitzy champagne sequin gown with a dramatic pleated train and shoulder flourish.
