Quavo is unleashing one of the late Takeoff’s verses from the vault.

On May 2, the “Workin Me” rapper released his new single “Dope Boy Phone” featuring a posthumous verse from his nephew and former Migos groupmate Takeoff, who died in November 2022 after he was shot outside a downtown Houston bowling alley.

“Yeah man, we back, you get what I’m saying? Huncho and the Rocket, Quavo and Take, the real Batman and Robin, Unc’ and ‘Phew. The greatest duo of all motherf—–’ time,” said Quavo while pouring a drink in a video shared to Instagram for the song’s release.

“Cheers to my dog, man,” he added. “‘Dope Boy Phone’ out right now.”

Quavo previously featured posthumous verses from Takeoff on the songs “Patty Cake” and “Back Where It Begins” from his 2023 album Rocket Power.

In an interview with Rolling Stone at the time, Quavo revealed a posthumous Takeoff album is in the works and noted the Last Rocket rapper has about 1,000 unreleased songs in existence.

“I want to keep his stuff very, very, very sacred right now,” Quavo, who named Rocket Power after one of Takeoff’s many nicknames, told the outlet. “I’m just trying to get this fuel from above and this feeling from the sky.”

Less than a month before Takeoff’s death, the two “Bad and Boujee” emcees released the collaborative album Only Built for Infinity Links as Unc & Phew with features from Mustard, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, Young Thug, Gunna, Summer Walker, Birdman and Gucci Mane.

Quavo shared a video discussion with Jamie Crawford-Walker to his YouTube channel in July 2023 and gave some insight into his mindset following Takeoff’s death. “I miss him a lot and I love him,” he said.

“He know I love him. That’s what we always know. So when you see me and you see me smiling or something like that, you don’t gotta never think I forgot about him or I’ll forget about him. I think about him all the time,” added Quavo. “Sometimes I cry myself to sleep. And that’s it. I just know he’s here. If I can’t feel him, I just know he’s around.”

Takeoff was shot and killed outside the front door of a downtown bowling alley in Houston on Nov. 1, 2022. He was at a private party with Quavo when an altercation broke out.
