It’s the summer after graduation, which means everything is make-or-break.
At least that’s what’s running through the heads of the young crew in The Runarounds as they try to make their impossible dream a reality in just a few months.
From Jonas Pate, the creator of Outer Banks, the new Prime Video series follows a group of recent high school graduates from Wilmington, N.C., who form a band with hopes of escaping the mundane futures that have been laid out before them. As they pursue the big leagues, they encounter big trouble along the way.

The trailer highlights the relationships that develop as the characters — well, they’re actually real musicians playing fictionalized versions of themselves — struggle to juggle the expectations from their families and friends and their shared passion for music.
As the bandmates throws themselves into their ambitious pursuit of fame, they encounter the highs and lows of coming-of-age — namely, falling in love and figuring out who the heck they are.
Stars William Lipton, Axel Ellis, Jeremy Yun, Zendé Murdock, and Jesse Golliher came together for the project after Pate recruited Outer Banks stars Chase Stokes and Madelyn Cline to put out a call for young musicians on social media to star in a new series.
“We got 5,000 bands sent to us in a week,” Pate recently told Entertainment Weekly of the process that led to the selection of the budding artists who ultimately formed the Runarounds. “I was thinking that these kids are going to freak out if they’ve never had cameras in their face before.”

The pilot for The Runarounds was originally shot in 2022, and since then the musicians have formed a group in real life. “They’ve written tons of songs. They just played their first festival in Charlotte,” Pate said. “They’re out of high school now and they’re totally legit musically. It’s awesome.”
Meanwhile, Pate thinks The Runarounds has a bright future. “We have a whole architecture for five-plus seasons mapped out that tells the story of what happens to them,” he said.
Alongside the band members, the series stars Lilah Pate, Kelley Pereira, Brooklyn Decker, Maximo Salas, Marley Aliah, Hayes MacArthur, Mark Wystrach, and Shea Pritchard.
