NBC has canceled the multi-cam comedy “Night Court,” Variety has confirmed. The followup to the beloved 1980s series aired for three seasons at the broadcast network.

Melissa Rauch led the cast, which also included original series cast member John Laroquette as well as Wendie Malick, Lacretta, and Nyambi Nyambi.

The official logline for the show states, “Eternally optimistic Abby Stone (Rauch) follows in the footsteps of her revered late father, Judge Harry Stone, as she takes on the challenge of overseeing the night shift of a Manhattan arraignment court.”

The original “Night Court” ran for nine seasons at NBC. The followup series hailed from showrunner and executive producer Dan Rubin. Rauch and Laroquette were also executive producers, along with Winston Rauch, Mat Hawawitz, Lon Zimmet, Lindsey Shockley and Mona Garcea. The Rauchs executive produced via After January Productions. Warner Bros. Television and Universal Television were co-studios on the series.

According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, WBTV has plans to shop the show to other outlets. “Night Court” originally launched in 2023 to strong ratings and was quickly renewed, but the show has seen double digit declines year-over-year as it has continued.

With the cancellation, “Lopez vs. Lopez” is the only NBC comedy series awaiting word on a renewal ahead of the NBCUniversal upfront presentation in New York on May 12. The multi-cam “Happy’s Place” starring Reba McEntire and mockumentary “St. Denis Medical” were previously renewed for second seasons. Announcements are also still pending for: freshman dramas “Suits LA,” “Brilliant Minds,” “Grosse Pointe Garden Society,” and “The Hunting Party; and sophomore shows “The Irrational” and “Found.”

Deadline first reported the cancellation.
