She’s just being Miley.
Global pop diva, actor, and fashion icon Miley Cyrus is gearing up for the release of her album, Something Beautiful, by sharing secrets about the project with some of her biggest fans. After she slayed up the steps of the Met Gala, Miley partnered with Spotify to host An Evening With Miley Cyrus, an intimate album listening event at New York City’s Metrograph on Tuesday, May 6.
Of course, she pulled up in four (!!!) stunning looks and greeted fans by signing their Hannah Montana memorabilia and singing “Flowers” with them. She then gave a first look at her visual album with a screening of the entire film and shared tidbits of her creative process during a Q&A with her day-1 Smilers.
“I’m also gagged by this movie. Any chance that I have, like everything, I make it for both of us. I make it for me to love it and for you to love it. There’s no one else that really matters,” she told moderator Matt Peterson (you know, that one guy who asked her to prom all those years ago…IYKYK) of her relationship with fans.
The Grammy winner also shared that her 2018 house fire ultimately became “the biggest blessing” that led her to crafting her fashion-forward tour de force.
“Losing everything and being able to rebuild and be purposeful and choose every piece that I’m going to collect—or also just about the people in my life,” she explained. “When my house burned down, a lot of my relationships also burned down, and that just led me to such magic and to have so much gratitude. I would’ve told my younger self to appreciate those darker times because, like I said, they are only leading you into the light.”
According to the artist herself, the experimentation on her upcoming record ties back to her 2015 fan-favorite, Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz. Something Beautiful sees all sides of Miley—she can equally be pop’s favorite psychedelic rockstar and serve dreamy disco with house elements reminiscent of Madonna’s Ray of Light.
She went on to reflect on past versions of herself and reveal that she made this album for her as much as she made it for her fans.
“I’m excited for my younger self to really experience this entire era because it has to start with me for it to be for you. This album has to start with me loving it, and then the love that I have for it, whether you know it or not, is going to be coming through the speakers,” Miley gushed. “When you’re listening, you’re going to feel this fulfillment that I have. I’m excited for you to hear it, but also for the person who never thought they would get to make this album to hear it, too, which is me.”
