Max Greenfield can’t get enough of his The Neighborhood co-stars.

The New Girl alum, 45, shared his favorite on-set memory with series star Cedric the Entertainer while chatting exclusively with Parade amid his partnership with Subaru Loves Learning and AdoptAClassroom.org, which helps provide teachers with funding for supplies for the upcoming school year.

“Anytime you can break Cedric, it’s always good,” Greenfield says with a laugh. “That’s a good day. Especially when you’re rolling, when you’re in a scene and you’re taping, and if you can get Cedric laughing, it’s a pretty good feeling.”

Greenfield goes on to tell Parade why he thinks the show — which begins shooting its eighth and final season this month — resonates with audiences so much. In addition to Greenfield and Cedric the Entertainer, the series also stars Beth Behrs, Tichina Arnold, Sheaun McKinney, Marcel Spears, Hank Greenspan and more.

“I think it’s a great show. I mean, I’m biased, but I really think it’s one of the last traditional multicam shows that’s still on the air,” he explains. “There are very few of them. So I think there’s a nostalgic piece to it. Also, you get to know these characters, and there’s so few shows, as well, that have been around as long as this show has been around. So there’s a familiarity with the characters as an audience member.”

He adds: “It is just a really nice show for people to tune into [and to] find some consistency. And again, I think I am biased, but I think the cast is a big part of it as well. We all genuinely love each other, and I think you can see it on the screen.”

As for his partnership with Subaru Loves Learning and AdoptAClassroom.org, the children’s book author tells Parade that linking up with the organizations was a no-brainer, especially since he’s seen first-hand as a parent how much help many teachers need to adequately outfit their classrooms with supplies. The average teacher in America spends $895 of their own money on classroom necessities, an amount that has risen 50% over the last decade.

“The one thing that becomes so glaringly obvious as you’re visiting different schools across this nation are the classes and schools that have, and the classes and schools that [are in] need,” he says. “It is obvious, and it is hard to turn away from. You can’t help but try to be a part of some sort of solution, even the smallest way after coming out of a situation like that, or at least witnessing it in that way.”

He continues:  “Just to be a part of that overall initiative, especially with the school year coming up, just felt like a really wonderful opportunity.”

As for how people can help support teachers ahead of the forthcoming school year and all year long, Greenfield says it’s easy to make a difference by heading to subaru.com/learning to find out more about the initiative.

“You can get really informed about exactly what they’re doing [and] what we’re doing,” he says, adding: “We’re just trying to benefit the youths.”
