MasterChef: Dynamic Duos was down to the Top 9 duos as Night 5 of eliminations got underway with a brand-new challenge called “Recipe Telephone.” It consisted of a culinary relay, in which each duo is split up: One teammate begins cooking while the other waits in a separate room. Halfway through the challenge, the duos swap places, and the second teammate must complete the dish. It’s a high-stakes, high-pressure challenge that tests just how well each duo really knows each other.

Who won the MasterChef: Dynamic Duos challenge tonight?
The first duo to bring up their dish was Jessica & Jesse’s char-grilled pork chop. The second dish called up as one of the top dishes of the night was Rachel & Julio’s pan-seared chicken breast. The final duo to earn a spot in the Top 3 was Tina & Aivan’s lobster garlic butter pasta.
The winning duo was Rachel and Julio, who won the prize of a dinner in one of the restaurants of each of the three judges.
Who was in the MasterChef: Dynamic Duos bottom three tonight?
The first duo whose crossed wires saw them in the bottom were Tonna & Cait with a New York Strip Steak. Duo number two was Zach & Michelle with a crispy skin salmon dish. The final two were Kayla & Ryan Kate with a filet mignon. The losing duo was Kayla & Ryan Kate.
“I am really disappointed,” Kayla said, “But we put it all out there. I am proud of us for getting everything on the plate.”
“It definitely doesn’t feel good, but I am not disappointed in our team,” Ryan Kate said. “If anything, this competition made our friendship stronger. I know I’ll have a friend for life who will always have my back, and that’s what matters.”
MasterChef airs Wednesday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX.
