Maren Morris is adjusting to her new normal.
The country singer, 35, has spent the last year settling into a new routine after splitting from ex-husband Ryan Hurd in 2024. Morris, who shares her 5-year-old son Hayes with Hurd, told The Zoe Report that she splits weeks with her ex, which has given her a lot more time alone than she expected.
“Those weeks I have with him, the house is full of chaos and energy and laughter and scraped knees,” Morris said. “And then, when he is not there, you have to recalibrate your alone-ness because you’re like, ‘Wow, this is just me in here now.’ “
“That’s when I’ve learned into it and not been drowned by my own company,” she added.

She also revealed she’s looking to her friends like Sheryl Crow as she navigates co-parenting.
“It’s just so nice to know mothers that have gone through this and made it out the other side,” Morris said. “Their kids are happy, and they’re friends with their exes, and they have family dinners. I’m getting into that space now, which is so much more peaceful.”
In August 2024, Morris opened up to PEOPLE about her divorce and shared how it’s affected Hayes, saying, “I feel like there’s so many emotions when you have a child with somebody and the relationship doesn’t pan out and you just have to put on a brave face and a consistent face for your baby.”
“I think he’s gone through a lot and there’s, I’m sure, a lot of confusion because he’s so little,” she said at the time. “But also, I feel like Ryan and I have done a really great job at just being great parents for him.”
Morris and Hurd’s divorce was finalized in January 2024. The ruling came three months after Morris filed for a dissolution of marriage in October 2023, citing irreconcilable differences.

As the two have navigated being co-parents to their son, Morris has spoken candidly about where she and Hurd are now at in their relationship.
“I mean, we’re getting it together, but the co-parenting thing has been going well, and we’re trying our best in this way, but it’s still pretty fresh,” said Morris while appearing on The Armchair Expert podcast, adding that she’s also felt “deeply creative” since getting divorced and pivoting out of the country genre.
“There’s a lot to write about, but, like, a freedom too,” she declared.
