Ethan Peck Shares Surprising Comment About Spock’s Controversial New Romance originally appeared on Parade.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds star Ethan Peck is addressing his character, Mr. Spock’s new romance with La’an Noonien-Singh, played by Christina Chong, in the current third season of the Paramount+ series. The pair had their first kiss in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3, Episode 4, which premiered on July 31.
While speaking to Swooon in August 2025, Peck referenced that Spock was romantic with Nurse Christine Chapel (Jess Bush) in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2. Chapel has since moved on from Spock with Dr. Roger Korby (Cillian O’Sullivan). According to Peck, Spock’s new feelings for La’an doesn’t negate Chapel’s importance in his life.
“I think it’s just sort of an internal reorganization, right? Nothing in the mind really disappears. If you build a new building over an old building, oftentimes that old building is no longer there, but in the mind, things can sort of exist simultaneously in the same sort of place, if you will,” said Peck to the publication. “And so I think that it’s just sort of a reorientation to his relationship to Nurse Chapel and his feelings about her. They’ve been very valuable for him. I think she was a really incredible teacher for him on his journey to becoming or understanding his humanness.”
The executive producer of Star Trek: New Stranger Worlds Henry Alonso Myers also opened up about La’an and Spock’s romance during an August 2025 interview with Swooon. He noted that the characters started getting closer after Spock began taking dance classes from La’an.
“I think that they are both taken in by the potential that they have and what they go on this season, it’s a casual relationship but a mature one, and I will say this: You will be surprised by how much the dancing has value in helping them to get through some genuinely difficult stuff,” said Myers.
Some Star Trek fans aren’t too keen about La’an and Spock’s romance. For instance, in an July 31 Reddit thread on the Star Trek subreddit, a few viewers said they took issue with the show focusing on Spock’s romantic storylines.
“Please please please stop pairing every woman with a heartbeat with Spock. I don’t care about his love life,” wrote a commenter.
“Oh God I hoped I was wrong about Spock and La’an,” added another.
A few fans, however, shared that they enjoyed Spock and La’an’s dynamic.
“One of my favourite episodes of Strange New Worlds! I’m here for the fun. Plus I always thought La’an and Spock had good chemistry together,” commented a fan.
“Damn a whole lot of yall are jaded. This was a fun, cute episode that was 100% the perfect combination of old school trek and new trek . And as for Spock bedding down with every woman he meets? You know what yeah! Go ahead and let him have at it! I for one squealed with joy at seeing la An and Spock finally acknowledge the tension between the two of them. And also Ethen Peck is fine AF. 10/10 loved it,” shared a different person.
