Maren Morris is opening up about her experiences navigating the world of dating women after coming out as bisexual last year.
In a candid conversation on Betches’ U Up? podcast on Friday, May 9, the 35-year-old singer shared that her journey has been “really positive” since she began dating women following her divorce from Ryan Hurd.
“I would love to talk about it because I’m so new at it, and I would love to just get feedback because my experience has been really positive,” Morris admitted.
One of the more unique aspects Morris noted about dating women is the immediate emotional connection she often feels. “I can connect with a woman, any woman, within like two minutes,” she explained. “We’ll be talking about our childhoods. We’ll be talking about the bully when we were 13. We will get into it so quickly” This quick bonding, Morris said, contrasts with her experience dating men, saying, “With a guy, that would take like years to get into that trauma.”
She also shared in the episode how she sometimes struggles with distinguishing between friendship and romance, especially when connecting with women. “Sometimes I just love a woman and we’re friends… but then she’s giving me a vibe like she’s gonna kiss me,” Morris reflected. “That’s where I sometimes have the hard delineation of romance versus friendship.”
Morris also touched on her dating life post-divorce. “I’ve never really dated before now, so this is all very new for me,” she said, acknowledging how having a child, 5-year-old Hayes, whom she shares with Hurd, 38, adds a different layer to her dating experiences. “You will separate the boys from the men really quickly when you tell them, ‘I have a kid. This is priority one.’”
The country star was married to Hurd from 2018 to 2023, and since divorcing have been focused on co-parenting their son. Morris revealed to People in August 2024 that “There [are] so many emotions when you have a child with somebody and the relationship doesn’t pan out.” She further revealed, “I feel like Ryan and I have done a really great job at just being great parents for [Hayes].”
