A woman said her future sister-in-law asked her to be a bridesmaid in her wedding, which she agreed to
After she said accepted, the bride asked her to wear a dress that hides her arm tattoos, as well as to remove her glasses for photos
However, the woman noted that she felt “weird” hiding things that were a fundamental part of who she is
A woman said her future sister-in-law wants her to be a bridesmaid in her wedding — but only if she agrees to a few amendments to her appearance.
The woman shared in a post on Reddit’s “Wedding” forum that she wears glasses and has a “full tattoo sleeve” — two things which the future bride wants her to either change or cover up.
She noted that the bride asked her to be a bridesmaid at her wedding to her brother, which she promptly said “yes” to. However, she asked her not to wear her glasses in the wedding photos and to pick a dress that would “cover my tattoos.”
The Redditor noted that contacts “aren’t really an option for me,” and she felt “weird” hiding things that were a fundamental part of who she is just to make the bride happy.

“These things are just a part of me, and I feel weird about being asked to cover up what I look like for her photo aesthetic,” the woman said. “Am I being unreasonable for not wanting to accommodate these requests?”
She also noted that the wedding would be held in the summer, so “it will be very hot for long sleeves.” She also explained that her tattoos were “not offensive,” as it was made up of “flowers, birds, berries” and “nature images in color.”

Several people suggested different ways for the woman to let her future sister-in-law know that she was uncomfortable with the asks, including one person who suggested that she tell the bride that, since contacts aren’t an option, she could also ask if the bride wanted her to “just come as a guest” instead.
While some noted that glasses are a necessity, others also sympathized with the bride, as they noted they “are a pain when doing photos,” and that was likely the reason why the bride asked her not to wear them while taking pictures.
However, others pointed out that a good photographer could work around it. One person explained, “My sister and her husband both wear glasses and wore them at their wedding and all the photos turned out amazingly! So no, that is not a valid reason.”
Another person agreed that the woman “should stand firm regarding the contacts,” but for the dress, the Redditor could “just order one that’s long-sleeved or one that comes with a little jacket that she can take off at the reception.”
One person described these demands as those of a “bridezilla,” as the bride was “putting aesthetics above acceptance and kindness towards her future family,” and noted that if she wanted her sister-in-law to “be a bridesmaid, she could ask ALL bridesmaids to wear long-sleeved dresses.”
