Liam Neeson is looking back on his romance with his late wife, Natasha Richardson.

Neeson, 73, briefly spoke about Richardson in a profile with The New York Times published Thursday, July 31. The pair first met when they costarred in a 1992 Broadway revival of the play Anna Christie before later getting married in 1994. They welcomed sons Micheál, now 30, and Daniel, now 28, during their marriage. Richardson died at 45 in March 2009 after a skiing accident.

“It was great doing it every night with her and falling in love,” Neeson, who is currently promoting the new comedy The Naked Gun, said of performing alongside Richardson. The Times reported that his interview took place just one block away from the theater that housed the production.

Neeson also mentioned Richardson when he spoke about his action-revenge movies, Taken. The actor recalled that Richardson broke the news to him that the first movie was a hit “when she walked up the stairs, giggling, with a tray carrying tea and a bran muffin, to tell him that the film was doing well at the box office,” as the outlet wrote.

In October 2024, Neeson opened up to PEOPLE about how his family “pulled together” in the wake of Richardson’s sudden death. He recalled that his primary focus became “making sure [the couple’s sons] were okay” and working and that his mother-in-law, Vanessa Redgrave, and sister-in-law, Joely Richardson, “were extraordinary” in stepping up to help the family.

At the time, Neeson also said he was no longer dating. (He dated U.K.–based public relations executive Freya St. Johnston for two years some time after Richardson’s death.) “No, in a word,” he told PEOPLE in that issue, when asked if he still dates. “I’m past all that.”

Even so, a source close to Neeson’s new movie with Pamela Anderson told PEOPLE on July 29 that the costars are “in the early stages” of dating.

The rumored relationship has quickly won approval from famous friends of Richardson’s, like Andy Cohen, who noted during his SiriusXM show Andy Cohen Live on Wednesday that he “and all of the friends in this circle are very much stanning whatever this is” between Neeson and Anderson.

The Naked Gun is in theaters Aug. 1.
