Based on the classic series format created by legendary producer Dick Wolf, who brought you the Law & Order and One Chicago franchises, the Canadian installment follows Specialized Criminal Investigations Unit’s Detective Sergeants Henry Graff (played by Aden Young) and Frankie Bateman (played by Kathleen Munroe), who “investigate high-profile homicides in Canada’s largest metropolis.”
While the first season premiered on Canada’s CityTV, the second one is currently airing. Both seasons will head to The CW for U.S.-based viewers starting in the fall months, with a total of 10 episodes each.
Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent is the next gripping chapter of one of the greatest and most recognizable broadcast television brands of all time,” said Brad Schwartz, President, The CW Network, in a statement, adding, “and we can’t wait to bring this series to The CW this fall.”
Law & Order: Criminal Intent in NYC ran for 10 seasons with Vincent D’Onofrio as Detective Robert Goren and Kathryn Erbe as Detective Alexandra Eames.
The Canadian version teases detectives with “unique investigative skills” that “are showcased through psychological tactics, with a heavy focus on the motives and actions of the criminals. These cases delve into the worlds of high finance, politics, real estate, media and more.”
Fans of The CW can tune into the Season 3 premiere of Sullivan’s Crossing on May 15.
Wild Cards, which aired its season 2 finale earlier this month, scored a third season renewal in Canada, though fans are still waiting to hear if the series will be renewed on The CW.
