Kristin Chenoweth Marks Emotional Anniversary: ‘I Am So Blessed’ originally appeared on Parade.
Tony and Emmy Award-winning actress Kristin Chenoweth took to social media recently to celebrate a big day. It was the anniversary of her “gotcha day,” the day her parents adopted her, and Chenoweth posted a beautiful message relaying how important the day was to her.
On July 29, Chenoweth uploaded two photos to Instagram showing her with her adoptive parents. In the caption, she wrote, “It’s July 29th… the day my parents adopted me. It’s my GOTCHA DAY (not just for rescue dogs, people)!!”
She continued, “57 years ago today I became a Chenoweth.”
Chenoweth added, “We always celebrated this day like it was my birthday growing up. I love you, mom & dad.”
“Thank you for this life you gave me. I am so blessed,” she gushed.
The former Wicked Broadway star appeared on TODAY in March 2022 and spoke about her adoption. She said she always felt like, “I won the lottery,” by having her parents be the ones who adopted her.
In January 2017, Chenoweth wrote a piece for HuffPost about her adoption. She noted she was adopted as a baby, and wrote, “I can honestly say being adopted was one of the best things to ever happen to me.”
She shared, “I recognize how fortunate I am to have parents who love and support me unconditionally. The fact that they are not my biological parents does not change the fact that they are simply, my parents.”
Chenoweth regularly recognizes her adoption anniversary via social media posts. In 2024, she explained that her “true birthday,” the day she was born, was July 24. She was placed with her adoptive parents five days later, on July 29. “In my family we celebrated two birthdays,” she noted.
The Broadway star’s new anniversary post received a lot of love from entertainment colleagues and fans.
Singer Lauren Alainawrote, “This is the content we all need. Made my day.”
The Brady Bunch alum Maureen McCormick and Jaymes Vaughan, from The Real Friends of WeHo and The Amazing Race, left strings of heart emojis as comments.
A fan shared, “As an adopted kid myself…this healed something in me. [I don’t know] what it healed. But something. Happy Gotcha day.”
Another added, “That’s a lotta love there!”
“My heart is full seeing these photos,” someone else wrote.
