Charlie Polinger and Lucy McKendrick are writing the script with Erik Feig and Julia Hammer for Picturestart, Kardashian, and Jason Larian and Jasmin Larian for MGA Entertainment on board to produce. MGA’s Isaac Larian will executive produce.
Ever since “Barbie” took the world by storm and became 2023’s highest grossing film with $1.44 billion, Hollywood has been mining all kinds of children’s toys for the big screen. Film versions of Hot Wheels, Barney, Polly Pocket and Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots are currently in the works across various studios and production copmanies.
Bratz has sold more than 200 million dolls since 2001 and apparently has the highest social media engagement across all platforms of any toy brand, according to Amazon MGM. However, it’s unclear if that’ll translate into blockbuster ticket sales. Bratz has been the subject of Lionsgate’s 2005 live-action movie, which flopped at the box office, as well as a several TV series and video games.
Kardashian is the star of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” and businesswoman behind the loungewear company Skims. She’s been cutting her teeth in the world of scripted entertainment, recently starring in “American Horror Story” alongside Emma Roberts and voicing characters in two “PAW Patrol” movies. On the horizon, she’ll lead the Netflix comedy “The Fifth Wheel” from director Eva Longoria and will appear in Ryan Murphy’s new drama “All Is Fair.”
Deadline Hollywood first reported the news about the “Bratz” movie.
