Khloé Kardashian initially had her doubts about therapy, until she received a gentle nudge from her sister Kim Kardashian.
While speaking with Jay Shetty on his On Purpose podcast published Monday, May 5, The Kardashians star, 40, admitted that she struggled with opening up about her trauma because she didn’t feel “comfortable talking to anybody.”
“It took me over 10 years to see a therapist again, and so many people would be like, ‘I think you need therapy.’ And I was like, ‘Well, I’m sure I do, but I don’t feel comfortable talking to anybody,’ ” she recalled, adding that she was very “monotone” at first. “She really worked hard to earn my trust. That made me feel safer with her. But the trust took a long time.”

Khloé told Shetty that it took a “long time” to build that “trust,” but revealed that her sister Kim helped matters by introducing her to a therapist that already had her seal of approval.
“But I will say, because I trust all of my siblings with everything in me, that normally, if it is an introduction through them, of course, my guards do go down,” she explained. “Kim has had her own crazy things that she’s not very trusting with either. So, for her to trust [them], I was like, ‘OK. I think I’m a little safe here.’ “
Khloé added that she wasn’t the only Kardashian who was skeptical about speaking to a mental health professional. Kim was also “anti-therapy for her own reasons.”

“I wanna say maybe two years ago, maybe a little bit longer, she started seeing a therapist that she really, really liked,” she continued. “And she just suggested I meet with her and I actually really liked speaking with her.”
Though it “might sound silly,” Khloé revealed that their therapist was from their neighborhood and had “so many things that she gets us on.”
“I also love how chill she is,” the Good American co-founder said of the practitioner. “She’s more like a friend and I feel like I could trust her. And that’s very rare for me. And I also think because of her relationship with Kim, she felt like more of a friend as opposed to this traditional therapist.”

“I was going to therapy and the next thing I knew, something private I told my therapist was on a tabloid,” she said. “And I knew that my therapist disclosed this information to a tabloid because there’s no way this could have gotten out there.”
“I stopped going to therapy and started going to the gym. I needed a release, but I did not trust anybody else anymore,” the reality star explained. “It was very jarring and sort of unbelievable, but there’s not a chance in the world that it came from anywhere else.”
