Kerry Washington is just as eager as Desperate Housewives fans are to get back to Wisteria Lane.
The Shadow Force actress was asked about the newly announced spinoff series — which PEOPLE confirmed is in the works with Washington’s production company and 20th Television under Onyx Collective on April 29 — when she stopped by The View on May 2, and she gave some new insights on what fans can expect.
“It’s inspired — I can’t say too much — it’s very newly announced, it’s in development,” Washington, 48, said of the “really exciting” news.

“The idea is that it’s new times, there’s new challenges, it’s like — what happens on that cul-de-sac now?” the Scandal star added.
When asked if she’ll be starring in the spin-off, though, she played coy and reiterated that she “can’t say any more” quite yet.
The spinoff, which is titled Wisteria Lane, a nod to the suburban street where the original cast — Eva Longoria, Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman and Marcia Cross — lived, comes more than 20 years after the original series premiered.
Per the official synopsis, the series isa “fun, sexy, darkly comedic soap/mystery, in the vein of Desperate Housewives” and will center around “a group of 5 very different friends and sometimes frenemies who all live on a picture-perfect cul de sac called ‘Wisteria Lane.'”
“On the surface, all the Wisteria neighbors are living the dream. Beautiful homes, gorgeous families, shiny SUVs in the driveway — but behind those white picket fences and smiling Insta posts, are SECRETS.”

The news of the spinoff from Washington’s production company ironically came just hours after Longoria, who played Gabrielle Solis in the original series, spoke out about the possibility of a reboot on Watch What Happens Live.
“Unlike Sex and the City, [which] was only like six episodes, eight episodes a year, we did 24 episodes a year for a decade,” Longoria, 50, said of the series.

Desperate Housewives stars Teri Hatcher as Susan Mayer, Felicity Huffman as Lynette Scavo, Marcia Cross as Bree Van De Kamp, Eva Longoria as Gabrielle Solis, James Denton as Mike Delfino, Nicollette Sheridan as Edie Britt, Steven Culp as Rex Van De Camp, Mark Moses as Paul Young, Ricardo Antonio Chavira as Carlos Solis, Cody Kasch as Zach Young, Andrea Bowen as Julie Mayer, Jesse Metcalfe as John and Brenda Strong as Mary Alice Young.
Because of how long the series ran for, she said that creator Marc Cherry is the person who would take the “most convincing” to return to the world. “He feels like we’ve exhausted the characters,” she sad.
