Kelly Clarkson is embracing her transformation — and she wants people to notice.
During a performance at Hard Rock Live in Atlantic City on Saturday, May 10, Clarkson, 43, filled the venue with her powerhouse vocals, performing classic hits like “Miss Independent” to her latest track “Where Have You Been.” But it was a conversation with a fan that revealed something deeper.
Per People, when an audience member praised Clarkson’s “sexy” appearance, the Grammy-winning singer couldn’t help but joke about her recent weight loss. The star, who’s been candid about using prescription medication for weight loss, said she often finds it hard to hold back compliments about others, especially on the set of her NBC talk show.
“I grew up on the road at 19 years old, you know what I’m saying? I’m like, ‘Oh, that is inappropriate. I would never,'” the American Idol alum stated. “But they also say you’re not allowed to say someone looks attractive, and I say f**k that.” Clarkson explained that she believes everyone deserves recognition for their hard work, adding, “I want every motherf**ker that passes me to go, ‘Damn. Well done.'”
The three-time Grammy winner also shared a humorous story of almost “getting in a fight” with an HR rep who cautioned against complimenting people’s appearances. She made it clear, though, that there’s “nothing wrong” with any body type, revealing that she felt confident at all sizes. “I felt fine both ways, but I’m just saying it’s a lot more fun with clothes now,” she added with a smile.
Before launching into “My Life Would Suck Without You,” Clarkson thanked the crowd for coming out, acknowledging how rare her performances are due to her talk show schedule. “We haven’t done a show in a while, y’all, ’cause I have a talk show. It’s like a whole other job,” she told the audience, according to Page Six.
In addition to her The Kelly Clarkson Show (which has been on air since 2019) and performing, Clarkson will also be returning to The Voicefor the Season 27 series finale later this month.
