Katy Perry’s dance moves aren’t always the bee’s knees.
The pop star, 40, shared the realities of life on the road with a photo of her skinned knees — the product of an ill-fated dance move while on her Lifetimes Tour.
In one photo nestled amid a carousel of pictures on Aug. 6, Perry relaxed in a bathtub, showing off some gnarly cuts and bruises she sustained on stage.
The “Firework” singer explained the injury in a screenshotted text message to her friend Lauren Glucksman, which she posted on the next slide.
“It was a slide on my knees mome[nt] that usually makes them go ahhh and it just made me go arghh,” she wrote to her pal, who responded, “And just like that she’s in her 40s.”
Perry’s carousel also included various photos from her time on tour, including her on a bike ride, her shoveling popcorn into her mouth while performing, and sweet moments with her daughter Daisy Dove, 4.
“We continue to be on tour,” she captioned her post.
The star kicked off her sold-out Lifetimes Tour in April in support of her 2024 album 143, and has so far played across the U.S., Mexico and Canada. After a series of American dates, she’ll head to Chile, Argentina and Brazil in September before making her way to Europe and Asia before wrapping on Dec. 7.
Perry opened up about the tour, her first major string of North American concerts since 2018, to PEOPLE in January.

“This show will be full of BPM (beats per minute). So I suggest wearing some sensible shoes and staying hydrated because I think there’s going to be a whole heck of a lot of us just dancing the night away,” she said. “We always put together a message in this huge Disneyland-on-wheels type tour. There’s costume changes, there’s acts, there’s dancers, there’s musicians. I’ll fly around the room. There’s no bad seat in the house. I’m going to get close to everyone at some point.”
The star also explained that she’s calling it the Lifetimes Tour “because I’m celebrating the whole lifetime of songs thus far.”

Among those to catch Perry on tour is former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who was seen in the crowd when she played the Bell Centre in Montreal on July 30.
He and Perry — who announced her split from fiancé Orlando Bloom in July — were also seen grabbing dinner and going on a walk in the city.
A source told PEOPLE earlier this month that she and Trudeau had an “instant connection.”
“They are interested in each other, but it will take a while to see where this goes,” the source said. “She is traveling around the world, and he is figuring out his life now that he is no longer prime minister of Canada, but there is an attraction. They have a lot in common.”
