If you’ve been tuning in to Celebrity Big Brother U.K., then you know that A) JoJo Siwa is one of the housemates partaking this season, B) She’s had quite the journey when it comes to her identity, and C) Her chemistry with former Love Islander Chris Hughes is next-level.
The latter made fans side-eye the singer, who had been dating non-binary Australian content creator, actor, model, DJ, and podcaster Kath Ebbs while the show aired. On April 26, Kath confirmed they had called it quits and claimed that JoJo “dumped” them at the show’s wrap party in a 13-minute-long, since-deleted TikTok video.
“I flew across the world to support and be there and hold that person in whatever they would be experiencing, leaving such a wild experience, and instead, I was dumped at the afterparty, with Chris in the next room,” Kath said, per People.
They continued, “I was told that there are confused feelings there … and that she had realized in the house that I wasn’t the person that [she] wanted to spend the foreseeable future with, which has honestly been… so shocking, that I feel kind of subhuman right now. I feel incredibly humiliated and I feel a bit embarrassed.”
However, JoJo decided to break her silence and clear up any confusion surrounding the end of her relationship with Kath during a joint interview with Chris on U.K. talk show, This Morning.
“I’ll be honest, that was not a plan,” JoJo said. “That was not an intention, that was not supposed to happen like that.”
The “Karma” singer, who uses all pronouns, explained that Kath wasn’t planning to go to the wrap party until they showed up an hour after it started. According to JoJo, the Aussie content creator asked if she was happy in their relationship, to which she said she wasn’t.
As for her connection with Chris, the pair told This Morning that they’d found platonic “soulmates” in one another. When host Ben Shephard asked if their friendship played a role in JoJo’s breakup with Kath, she doubled down and said it didn’t.
“I think our friendship is just a really strong bond between two people, it’s just a strong friendship,” Chris said. “I think you can have a soulmate friendship. I think that’s a thing.”
Ben then asked JoJo if she wanted to explore a romantic connection with Chris, to which she replied, “I don’t know any future of anything, but I’m really grateful for our dynamic that we have and our bond that we have. And whatever life does, life will do.”
The Dance Moms alum also credited the BB house for helping her realize she wanted to change certain things about her bustling lifestyle in the public eye. “I was now in my own thoughts away from everyone that I know, away from outside opinions, away from everything,” she said. “And I sat with myself and from that point on, I really realized things that I was okay with in my life that I should never have been okay with in the first place.”
She continued, “I knew as soon as I got out I wanted to fix things in my life and make the changes that I needed to make. You have this experience that’s so exhilarating, it’s 20 days, but it feels like it’s four and a half years. And the first thing you want to do when you get out is just exactly what you need to do in your life to make it as good as you can.”
