There’s a specific fashion moment from The Parent Trap that often plays rent free in my head. When we’re introduced to Meredith Blake—the evil, about-to-be stepmom with exquisite (and expensive) taste—she’s seated beside the pool with an iced tea in her hand and her face concealed by a black, wool, Breakfast at Tiffany’s-style hat. As she slowly lifts her head and we get our first look at her, a wicked grin spreads across Meredith’s face. It’s the perfect reveal, all thanks to the perfect accessory: something glamorous, mysterious, hot, and even a little sinister.
This scene has especially been coming to mind recently, because the same type of wide-brimmed, eye-obscuring hat has been popping up all over the place. From Rihanna and Kim Kardashian’s Met Gala looks to Melania Trump’s inauguration fit, Lauren Sánchez’s post-wedding outing, and Victoria Beckham’s yacht ensemble, many of the world’s most high-profile women are opting to keep things under-brim. Now, Jenna Ortega is giving the trend the Wednesday Addams treatment.
While promoting the second season of her hit Netflix series, Wednesday, Ortega arrived to Good Morning America this morning, where she wore a look pulled from Willy Chavarria’s Spring 2026 collection. All throughout the press run, Ortega has worn an array of showstopping looks, thanks to the help of her stylist, Enrique Melendez, that continue to push the boundaries of what Wednesday-inspired fashion can be.
The look consisted of a pewter, single-breasted blazer with slightly-raised shoulders layered over a black vest with peak lapels that folded over the jacket. True to Wednesday’s dark color palette, the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice star also wore an inky maxi skirt and satin Louboutin heels to match, but it was her jet-black sun hat that really stole the show.
The curving, oversize accessory acted like a shield of armor for Ortega’s face, and for an added element of drama, she also wore thin black sunglasses from Dezi.
Last summer, we investigated why hats were suddenly making a comeback, and it can be owed to an increased push towards individuality and personalized style statements.
Because she plays one of the most unique characters on screen, there’s plenty of inspiration for Ortega to mine when it comes to her outfits. But with this tour, it’s clear that her own style, and her takes on rising trends, are shining through.
