Most nights, you can spot George Clooney on Broadway performing in Good Night, and Good Luck. But if you want to catch him during the day, you might want to check out the softball field in Central Park.
The movie star was just nominated for his first Tony Award for Best Lead Actor in a Play. And he’s doing everything possible to represent Team Good Night, and Good Luck, including joining them for the Broadway Show League softball games. This week, they played team Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
New Yorkers are famously good at not calling too much attention to celebrities, but it would be hard not to react if you spotted the Ocean’s Eleven star hitting home runs next to you as you picnic in the park.
Clooney co-wrote the Broadway adaptation of Good Night, and Good Luck, which is based on the movie he wrote and directed, of the same name. In a statement after his first Tony nomination Clooney said, “For everyone involved, this has been an incredible experience. I couldn’t be more proud or feel more lucky.”
Earlier this year, in an interview with the New York Times, Clooney got candid about getting older. He recalled a conversation he had with his wife, Amal Clooney, upon turning 60.“I said, ‘Look, I can still play full-court basketball. I can still run around. I can still do pretty much everything I did when I was 30. But in 30 years, I’m 90. That’s a real number.” He went on to say that that means he wants to jam as much in as possible now.
And if that includes hitting homers off the Harry Potter cast, then so be it.
