John Stamos, known for his role as Jesse Katsopolis in Full House, has been cast to voice Tony Stark’s father, Howard Stark, for the upcoming animated Marvel series, Iron Man and his Awesome Friends.
Deadline reported that the series, which focuses on a young Tony Stark, AKA Iron Man, and his superhero friends, is aimed toward children of preschool age. Mason Blomberg voices Tony Stark, Kapri Ladd plays Riri Williams, also known as Ironheart, and Aidyn Ahn voices Amadeus Cho, who goes by Iron Hulk. Meanwhile, Talon Warburton voices Absorbing Man, Vanessa Bayer provided her voice for Swarm, and Tony Hale plays Ultron.
According to the publication, the series can be watched on Disney Jr. and Disney Channel starting on August 11. Depending on the country where viewers reside, Iron Man and his Awesome Friends can be streamed on Disney+ and Disney Jr. on Demand on August 12.
Deadline reported that Stamos has previously lent his voice for Tony Stark for the animated series, Marvel’s Spidey and His Amazing Friends, which premiered in 2021.
During a September 2022 interview with Extra TV, Stamos said his son, William “Billy” Stamos, 7, whom he shares with his wife Caitlin McHugh Stamos, was a fan of Spidey and His Amazing Friends. Stamos also shared that he wasn’t a Marvel fan before being cast as Iron Man for the animated series.
“My wife and my mother-in-law are huge Marvel fans. I don’t know anything about it,” said Stamos during the interview.
He then shared that he studied Robert Downey Jr.’s performance as Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films.
“I did a deep dive. And I came in with some of the rhythms. And they were like, ‘Don’t do that.’ But it’s been really special. And I know it’s an important legacy. So I respect it,” said Stamos to the publication.
In addition, the 61-year-old actor said he would join the MCU “in a heartbeat” if given the opportunity.
