FDA: ‘Healthy Aging’ Supplement Recall Classified as ‘Deadly’

  • The U.S. Food and Drug Administration notified consumers of a recall for a “healthy aging” supplement.

  • The recall, initiated due to an undeclared allergen, has been officially labeled a Class 1 recall, meaning it poses a high risk to consumers.

  • The recall is ongoing; here is a list of affected lots.

If your healthy aging diet includes a longevity-boosting vitamin, you may want to check your medicine cabinet. On April 14, Dorado Nutrition recalled Spermidine Maximum Strength 10mg supplement due to an undeclared allergen. Now, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is updating the recall classification to Class 1, which means that consumers face a “reasonable probability” of “serious adverse health consequences or death” by using the product.

Supplement Manufacturing Partners, Inc. voluntarily recalled two lots, or 6,465 bottles, of the spermidine supplement. The brand describes the product as a dietary supplement designed to “support healthy aging.” Spermidine is a compound that helps protect against neuronal cell damage and may help prevent age-related progressions such as memory loss, cognitive decline, and motor impairment when taken as a supplement. But more research is needed.

The recall of this specific supplement was initiated after testing revealed that the product containing wheat was distributed in packaging that did not disclose the presence of the allergen. At the time of the recall (which is ongoing), the FDA warned that the presence of the undeclared allergen could lead to “serious or life-threatening allergic reaction” for those with a sensitivity to wheat.

The product was distributed nationwide via Amazon (and throughout Germany) from May 22, 2024, through April 4, 2025. The mislabeled product has since been removed from retailers, and the FDA reported on April 14 that no adverse reactions had yet been reported.

Two lots of the Dorado Nutrition brand Spermidine Maximum Strength 10mg were included in the recall: lot numbers 12792402-44 and 12792402-44J. The product is packaged in a white bottle with a blue outlined label and contains 120 capsules per bottle. The affected product also has a best-by date of April 2026, located at the bottom of the bottle.

If you believe you have recalled product, the manufacturer and the FDA urge you to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. If you have used the recalled product and experience any adverse reactions, contact your healthcare provider immediately.

Dietary supplements are products intended to supplement the diet. They are not medicines and are not intended to treat, diagnose, mitigate, prevent, or cure diseases. Be cautious about taking dietary supplements if you are pregnant or nursing. Also, be careful about giving supplements to a child, unless recommended by their healthcare provider.
