The artists nominated but not voted for induction this year are Black Crowes, Mariah Carey, Joy Division + New Order, Billy Idol, Phish, and Maná, and some fans off those artists are irate, particularly fans for the jam band Phish, which won the Rock Hall fan vote and still didn’t get picked for induction this time around, as well as pop-punk pioneer Billy Idol.
Fans shared their displeasure on the official Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Instagram account.
“You’re telling me @phish won the fan vote by almost 50,000 votes and they still didn’t make it? 😑,” one posted.
“Guess the fan vote means nothing then 😃,” one angry Phish follower wrote.
Another fan took their displeasure even further. “That’s crazy! Where is Billy Idol!? He IS Rock n Roll. And Phish??? None of this makes sense as it should be based on Pedegree. Not just people who have constant time to post and vote online. I’m questioning this process,” they posted.
Still another fan took a shot at an act that was chosen for induction. “You’re telling me the White Stripes are more deserving than Billy Idol? Come on,” they wrote.
“Where’s BFI?! 😭 we voted every day for you-because You rocked our world for 40+years!!! ❤️@billyidol,” wrote another.
While Billy Idol and Phish fans were notably upset by the news, at least one Mariah Carey fan took a more optimistic approach, although the . “I wish Mariah Carey would’ve gotten inducted into this year’s Rock Hall 2025 class but hopefully she finally does get inducted next year 🤞🏾💯,” they wrote.
