Apparently, love triangles exist even after you’re dead.

On Tuesday, A24 unveiled the trailer for its upcoming feature film Eternity, which continues the production company’s trend of tackling the beloved romantic-comedy trope of the love triangle. But the film embraces a twist on the classic by introducing a supernatural element — the afterlife.

In the Eternity trailer, Joan (Elizabeth Olsen) wakes up in the afterlife with the impossible choice: she has one week to decided whether she wants to spend eternity (see what they did there?) with the man she spent her life with Larry (Miles Teller) or her first love Luke (Callum Turner), who died young and has waited decades for her to arrive.

Oscar winner Da’Vine Joy Randolph and John Early serve as the threesome’s informative, yet meddlesome afterlife coordinators who deliver the news that Joan has a week to decide whether she wants to be with Luke or Larry.

Despite being around for 67 years, there seems to be no other alternatives for Luke, who tells a shellshocked Joan of his long wait: “When eternity’s on the line, seems like nothing.”

“That’s a good opener,” an understandably swooned Joan has to admit.

And while it’s tough to beat the war-lost husband who has been waiting over six decades to return to his wife’s side, Teller’s Larry has some romantic lines of his own. “I don’t care where we end up, just as long as we’re together,” he tells Joan, adding later, “Knowing you’re happy makes me happy.”

Directed by David Freyne and co-written by Freyne and Pat Cunnane, Eternity is set to premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival ahead of its theatrical release in November. Tim White and Trevor White serve as producers.

In March, Olsen told Bustle that Eternity harks back to classic Old Hollywood films. “It’s a Billy Wilder type of film,” she told the outlet. “It’s old school and timeless. It’s a warm, heartfelt, funny piece that will make people feel good.”

She added, “It’s a special film about how we look back at one’s life, both in the end and the entirety of it, not just a moment in time. It’s a reflection of the gift of what it is to be alive and who we choose to spend that time with.”

The actress, who made herself a household name playing the character of Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch in six MCU films and a TV series, beginning with 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, has several more projects in the wings. She told The Hollywood Reporter in a recent interview that she “just finished [Panic Carefully]” and is “moving on to filming a pilot for FX [called Seven Sisters].”
